Last year, over 75 participants tried to quit smoking through this program. This year, 15 classes were conducted, with each class representing a seven week course.
Forty students participated in a field trip to Jefferson City to meet with legislatures concerning tobacco prevention efforts.
Fifty-seven students participated in training sessions to become peer educators.
Last year, staff of the Kansas City School District attended a facilitator training and are ready to implement the program in 2008-2009.
Sixteen metro-area schools participated in 2007-2008 and 159 children completed the program.
One of 20 nationwide centers is located at Truman Medical Center in partnership with the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and Children’s Mercy Hospital.
