The American Lung Association’s Fight for Air 5K raises money to fight lung disease in all its forms through education, research and advocacy. Why? The statistics are staggering. More than 35 million Americans struggle to breathe because of lung disease and everyone is affected in some way. Each year, too many lives are lost to lung disease and this is your chance to raise money and make an impact in their honor. By joining the Fight for Air 5K, you are making the commitment to fight lung disease so everyone can breathe easier – including you!

Asthma Education for Children and Their Caregivers
Asthma 101 is a community program aimed primarily at adults (parents, teachers) to help them understand asthma and how to respond to children with asthma. Open Airways for Schools is a school-based curriculum for use by schools’ counselors, teachers or nurses to teach elementary children with asthma how to manage their asthma. Results include fewer trips to the emergency room and fewer missed days of school. Counting on You…Responding to Kids with Asthma is a program offered to teachers and care providers in childcare centers. It teaches the child care providers how to recognize the signs of respiratory difficulty so they can take action to prevent an asthma attack. The program also helps the childcare center identify common asthma triggers that are present in their center and how to make their center as healthy as possible for children with asthma.
Helping Teens and Adults to Quit Smoking
Not on Tobacco is a 10-week gender-specific program designed for teens that are addicted to cigarettes and want to quit smoking. It employs small group and individual work on the multiple issues that surround youth smoking and their attempts to quit. Freedom from Smoking is an adult smoking cessation program. It is offered online for adults who either do not have time or are not inclined to participate in a group cessation program. Participants can get advice, information and encouragement as they go through multiple steps in their effort to quit. Group sessions are offered in the community where trained volunteers are available to lead the program. Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) is a youth tobacco prevention program that teaches elementary and middle school students to lead a smokefree lifestyle.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Better Breather’s Clubs are support groups for adults suffering from respiratory diseases. We also provide COPD education for health care professionals on the latest advancements in prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
