Central States and MidSouth Regions of the American Lung Association Merge
Newly Formed Charter to Be Known as The Plains-Gulf Region
ST. LOUIS, MO (July 1, 2010) – The American Lung Association of the Central States and the American Lung Association of the MidSouth are pleased to announce the amalgamation of the two regions into one contiguous charter covering nine states—Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. Effective today, the newly consolidated region will be known as the American Lung Association of the Plains-Gulf Region.

America’s Cities Show Success Fighting for Air
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 28, 2010)—The American Lung Association’s State of the Air 2010 report finds that a decade of cleanup measures to reductions in emissions from coal-fired powered plants and the transition to cleaner diesel fuels and engines have paid off in cutting levels of deadly particle and ozone pollution, especially in eastern and midwestern U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Cincinnati, Cleveland, New York City, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Washington, DC/Baltimore, MD.

EPA Proposes New Standard for Air Pollutant
On November 16, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed new limits on the toxic air pollutant sulfur dioxide in the outdoor air. This health standard has not been revised since 1971. The American Lung Association welcomes this long overdue action and urges EPA to set a standard at a level that truly protects public health.
